Stan Spence went deep and had 2 RBI at Silver Slapper Park where the Sterling
Silver Sluggers beat the Providence Red Pandas by the score of 5 to
3.
Sterling came through with the game-winning runs in the bottom of the 8th
inning with 3 runs using 5 hits. Bob Kennedy was the sparkplug when he
smashed a solo-shot out of the park. After an out was recorded, Ray Neil
came to the plate and stroked a base-hit. Neil got a great jump and stole
second easily. Spence came up and he bombed a two-run dinger. The game was
a scoreless duel until the 6th inning.
The win was credited to Ted Alexander(3-2) who went 1 inning allowing no runs.
Alexander got help from Bob Romby who earned his 1st save. Jack Banta(8-14)
was hit with the loss in relief. He gave up 3 runs and 5 hits in 1 inning.
'Wow. That's about all I can think to say.' said Connie Mack following the
victory. 'If ever a team needed a win, it was us.'
