Andy Messersmith had 2 base hits and he whitewashed Bristol on 2 hits as the
blistering-hot Minnesota Loons beat the league door-mat Bristol Blasters by a
score of 2 to 0.
Messersmith(3-0) was indeed brilliant as he hand-cuffed the Bristol offense.
He gave up just 2 hits and no walks in 9 innings dropping his ERA from 3.48
to 2.43. Both teams' bats went to sleep after the 3rd inning with no runs
scored after that point.
Jerry Reuss(5-17) was the losing pitcher. 'Messersmith gave us exactly what we
needed tonight.' Chris Kaufman said. 'When he threw the fastball he threw it
for strikes. They were really fooled by his change. Most of the time he had
them chasing it.'
