Second baseman Chuck Schilling blasted 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI as the
Pittsburgh Bichipoos bested the Colorado 14ers 12 to 8 at The
Couch.
Schilling enjoyed a great evening at the plate. Every time he came up in the
latter innings, the crowd was on their feet cheering. He rifled a three-run
blast in the 3rd inning, lined a single in the 5th inning, hit a bases-empty
home run in the 7th inning and slapped a one-base hit in the 8th inning.
Colorado was not lacking for run support as they scored in 5 separate
innings, yet victory eluded them as they seemed to forget that pitching is
also needed to win ballgames.
Dick Lemay(4-4) got credit for the victory, pitching 7 and 2/3 innings and
allowing 5 runs. Billy Pierce(10-8) took the loss. He was touched for 7 hits
and 3 walks in 3 innings.
'It's just about getting in a good hitting position and just going out there
and being prepared,' Schilling said. 'You try to hit in your own capacity and
not do too much. I just try to have a good approach, day after day, game by
game, and pitch by pitch.'
