Jim Sundberg had 2 base hits and 3 RBI at Veterans Stadium as the Savannah
Rumrunners beat the Bristol Blasters 8 to 7.
Phil Niekro(16-7) gave Savannah a solid outing. He surrendered 6 hits and 3
walks in 7 and 1/3 innings and surrendered 2 'round-trippers'. Bristol
threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short.
Doug Bird recorded the save, his 23rd. Larry Christenson(0-3) took the loss.
Savannah scored big getting 5 runs off him in 3 and 1/3 innings.
When questioned about the loss, Steve Sustakowski said, 'The fans got to see
an exciting game out there tonight. Unfortunately, we couldn't get it done
this time. Next time, though, we'll be the clubhouse with all the smiles.'
