Lefty Smith tossed a fine 2 hitter and Wayne Terwilliger had 2 base hits as
the Cincinnati Royalty bested the Providence Red Pandas 5 to 3 at Corruption
Park.
Cincinnati came through with the game-winning runs in the top of the 8th
inning scoring 3 runs utilizing 3 base hits. Luke Appling kicked off the
action when he slapped a base-hit. Phil Cavarretta came next and he laid
down a sacrifice bunt. Ralph Kiner then was walked intentionally. Larry
Doby was up next and he lofted a three-run bomb. Cincinnati totaled 10 hits
on the afternoon.
Smith(12-6) finished the game allowing 3 runs in the victory. Sam Zoldak(2-2)
was the losing pitcher in relief. He surrendered 2 hits and 1 walk in 2/3 of
an inning.
