Whitey Ford took a no-hitter into the 6th inning at Municipal Stadium as the
Sugarland Skeeters beat the Minnesota Loons by the count of 10 to 5.

Frank Howard had a good evening at the plate. He lined a one-base hit
bringing in a run in the 1st inning, blasted a two-run home run in the 2nd
inning and slapped a single knocking in a run in the 4th inning. Ford(9-13)
got relief help from Wes Stock who was excellent in relief and gained credit
for his 1st save.

The left-handed Ford lost his chance for a no-hitter when Ken Hunt singled
with nobody out in the 6th inning. Jim Kaat(13-12) took the loss. He was
knocked around by Sugarland, allowing 11 hits and 2 walks in 3 and 2/3
innings.
