In a dramatic ending at Mile High Stadium the Denver Dingers won in their last
at-bat beating the Providence Red Pandas by the count of 4 to 3.
The game was won by Denver with a run in the 9th inning. Andy Seminick drew a
walk. Bob Elliott stepped up next and he laid down a sacrifice bunt. Pepper
Bassett then was walked intentionally. Gene Woodling got his chance to keep
things going, but he went down on strikes. Andy Anderson came to the plate
and drew a walk to load the bases. Carl Furillo kept the rally going and
lined a single giving Denver the victory and sending the 31,705 home-town
fans home happy. Denver banged out 9 hits on the afternoon.
Howie Fox(11-8) was the winner allowing no runs in 2 innings. Jack Banta(7-12)
was hit with the loss in relief. He gave up 1 run and 1 hit in 2/3 of an
inning.
