Jose Cardenal had 2 base hits and 2 RBI as the New Jersey Jackals bested the
Sterling Silver Sluggers 5 to 4 at Yanker Stadium.
New Jersey scored the deciding run in the top of the 9th inning. Hank Aaron
laced a one-base hit. Rod Carew came next and he stroked a single. Bob
Watson then laid down a sacrifice bunt. Jeff Burroughs followed and he was
walked intentionally to load the bases. Cardenal stepped into the box and
drew a walk scoring the run. Sterling was set down quietly in the bottom of
the 9th.
The victory was credited to Dick Bosman(4-3) who went 2 innings, allowing no
runs. Tom House earned the save, his 11th. Skip Lockwood(1-3) was hit with
the loss in relief.
New Jersey now has a record of 53-64. Sterling has a record of 54-54 after
the loss.
