Brian Downing slammed a homerun at Shea Stadium as the Las Vegas Stars beat
the New Jersey Jackals 4 to 2.
New Jersey was unable to claim the lead after Las Vegas went ahead in the 6th
inning plating one baserunner. Las Vegas won despite being out-hit by New
Jersey 9 hits to 6.
Nolan Ryan(8-11) picked up the victory, allowing 2 runs in 7 and 2/3 innings.
Ken Forsch earned the save, his 14th. Ross Grimsley(10-10) was the losing
pitcher. He pitched 7 innings and surrendered 5 hits and 1 walk.
'I always am most impressed when a pitcher finds a way to win even without his
best stuff,' OPEN said after the game. 'Ryan did not have command of his
pitches most of the afternoon, but he proved he really knew how to pitch!'
