3.
Bristol scored the winning runs in the 9th inning scoring 2 runs utilizing 3
base hits. Joe Dimaggio started the inning off right when he smacked a
single. Hank Baylis stepped into the batter's box and he slapped a one-base
hit. Phil Rizzuto then laid down a sacrifice bunt. Vic Wertz came up and he
delivered a base-hit, and an error was also committed, driving home two runs.
Max Surkont(4-1) got help from Joe Page who pitched a perfect ninth and was
credited with his 22nd save.
Roberto Vargas(2-4) was the losing pitcher in relief. Steve Sustakowski was
all smiles after the game, 'To pull a game out in your last at bats, is a
beautiful feeling - and did you see how quiet it got out there? You could
have heard a pin drop when we took the lead. But, hey, that's what makes
baseball so great - as the great sage Yogi Berra says, 'it's not over 'til
its over.'
