In a close game the Bumpass BS got by the dreadful Bristol Blasters by the
score of 4 to 2.
Johnny Bench provided much of the offense. He doubled in the 2nd inning,
doubled in the 6th inning and lost the ball over the fence for three runs in
the 8th inning. Bumpass had 8 hits for the night.
The win went to Glenn Abbott(8-3) who allowed 2 runs in 7 and 1/3 innings.
Rich Gossage earned the save, his 18th. Bob Stanley(2-4) was the loser in
relief. He was not very effective, surrendering 3 runs in 2 innings.
Wth the win Bumpass now has a record of 70-61. Steve Sustakowski was pretty
down after the loss. 'We've really been sputtering along lately, something
like 0-10 in the last week or two. That won't get it done.'
