WEB GEMS- Top 6th: Al Zarilla robbed Curley Williams of a Homerun!
Len Pigg connected with a 'big fly' and had 2 RBI and Pat Scantlebury went 7
solid innings at The Carousel as the Savannah Rumrunners staged a comeback
win over the Tenth Avenue Freezeouts by the count of 7 to 4.
Savannah came up with the deciding runs in the 9th inning when they tallied 4
runs on 5 hits. The crucial at-bat was provided by Bud Stewart who quieted
the home crowd when he laced a single bringing in two baserunners. Savannah
had 12 hits overall, while Tenth Avenue had 7.
Al Brazle(6-3) was the winner allowing 1 run in 2/3 of an inning. Leon Day
preserved the game for Brazle, recording his his 23rd save. The losing
pitcher was Jim Konstanty(0-4) in relief.
Billy Vanson was understandably not very talkative after his team's tough
loss. He quickly showered and changed and when asked about the game had a
terse, yet polite response, 'Hey fellows, that game was a heart-breaker to
lose. Our guys gave it their all and played well - fate just wasn't smilin'
on us this afternoon'
