At Yanker Stadium, the Sterling fans witnessed a great pitcher's duel. Phil
Niekro(11-3) finally bested his Sterling opposite, Steve Renko(4-3), by the
score of 4 to 0.
Cincinnati drew first blood jumping out to an early lead in the first inning
as they scored 3 runs on 3 base hits. That early scoring was all that Niekro
needed. Sterling was out-hit by Cincinnati, 9 hits to 6.
Clay Carroll recorded his 4th save. Renko was charged with the loss.
Cincinnati continued their winnings ways improving their record to 46-42.
