The Savannah Rumrunners came roaring back in the top of the ninth to spoil the
anticipated celebration of the hometown fans. The final score,, was 7 to
6.
Savannah scored the winning runs in the 9th inning scoring 2 runs using 4
hits. Kevin Polcovich led off and he delivered a single, and an error was
also committed. Chuck Knoblauch stepped up next and he doubled scoring a
run. Two outs later Ron Coomer came to bat and singled scoring the final run
of the inning. Cincinnati was out-hit by Savannah, 15 hits to 10.
Pete Smith(3-3) went 1 inning allowing 2 runs for the victory. Smith got help
from Jeff Shaw who was credited with his 26th save. Scott Sullivan(1-1) was
the losing pitcher in relief.
John O'Neal was not very talkative after his team's tough loss. 'I'm not in
the mood for questions, but I'm sure Blackbeard Teach will be glad to talk
about the game as long as you have questions to ask.'
