WEB GEMS- Bot 8th: Dick Lundy robbed Sandy Thompson of a base hit.
Vic Aldridge(6-3) thrilled the fans at The GAS as he crafted a no-hit
masterpiece against the Bumpass BS. The Cincinatti Royalty won by a final
score of 2 to 0.
Aldridge was just too much for Bumpass. He walked 2 Bumpass batters. The
Cincinatti players and coaches started to leave Aldridge alone with his
thoughts after the game reached the 7th inning. By the time the 9th inning
rolled around, you could hear a pin drop every time he went to his wind-up -
and an explosion after every out. Cincinatti totaled 8 hits on the
afternoon.
Ted Lyons(11-3) was charged with the loss in relief. It was a tough loss for
him as he did not allow an earned run in his 5 innings of work.
'Not in my wildest dreams did I think this would happen!' Aldridge said as he
stood at home plate to salute the fans. 'Once I got into the later innings,
I decided to challenge every hitter, and that turned out to be the right
decision!'
