26,540 fans were treated to a fine game at The TARDIS as only one run
separated the combatants at game's end. The Gallifrey Time Lords won by the
slimmest of margins, 5 to 4.
Gallifrey came up with 2 runs in the 5th inning. Charles Williams led off the
inning for Gallifrey when he reached on an error. Ira Flagstead stepped up
next and he lined a single. Harry Jeffries then drew a walk to load the
bases. After an out was recorded, Tony Lazzeri came to the plate and laced a
one-base hit scoring two teammates. Iowa made it exciting in the 9th, but
they were unable to push the needed runs across.
Rube Walberg(6-10) got credit for the victory, pitching 7 innings and allowing
4 runs. Ray Kolp was credited with his 2nd save. Howard Ehmke(6-3) was
charged with the loss.
'I had a little blister on my index finger before the game, but I thought it
was nothing.' Walberg said. 'I was lucky I got a win because I couldn't put
the ball where I wanted it.'
