Shortstop Cal Ripken had 2 base hits as the Bristol Blasters beat the
Minnesota Loons by a score of 6 to 1.
Bristol set the tone of the game in the first inning plating 3 runs on 3 base
hits. After an out was recorded, Tony Gwynn started the rally when he
stroked a one-base hit. After another out, Moises Alou stepped in and he
clubbed a two-run home run. Ken Caminiti then drew a walk. John Valentin
was up next and he stroked a base-hit. Ripken stepped into the box and
reached on an error scoring the final run of the inning. That early run
support was all that Ben McDonald(5-4) required. Bristol had 10 hits
overall, while Minnesota had 4.
The loss was charged to Roger Clemens(6-3). He was knocked around by Bristol,
allowing 10 hits and 3 walks in 7 innings. 'It felt really nice to get this
win,' McDonald said. 'I kind of dictated the game. It's what I get paid to
do. It worked out this time.'
