In a dramatic ending, the Mid-World Bumblers staged a comeback win over the
Hibbing Dylans by the count of 5 to 4.
Mid-World had the game winning rally in the 9th inning with 2 runs utilizing 3
base hits. Dave Winfield led off and keyed the rally when he doubled. Biff
Pocoroba stepped up next and he drew a walk. Tony Scott then lined a
one-base hit which scored a run. Ron Jackson came up and he grounded into a
double play. Larry Cox stepped into the box and slapped a single giving
Mid-World the victory as 35,924 happy fans celebrated wildly. Mid-World
rapped out 7 hits for the afternoon.
Don Stanhouse(2-4) went 2 innings allowing no runs for the win. Joe
Sambito(2-6) took the loss in relief. Wayne Wilson was ebullient after the
game, 'It's great to win a hard fought game like that. Our guys just weren't
going to be denied. And did you see the fans - they were going wild! Yes
sir, a very enjoyable win this afternoon!'
