First baseman Gil Hodges had 2 base hits and 3 RBI at The Couch where the
Bristol Blasters beat the Pittsburgh Bichipoos 6 to 4.
Bristol came up with the deciding runs in the 8th inning plating 3 runs
utilizing 2 base hits. Johnny Wyrostek led off the inning for Bristol when
he drew a walk. Steve Sustakowski then called for a steal which was
successful. Hank Baylis then was walked intentionally. Joe Dimaggio was up
next and he doubled driving in a run. Two outs later Vic Wertz came up and
he was walked intentionally to load the bases. Hodges contributed to the
rally and lined a base-hit, and an error was also committed, as two more
runners crossed the plate. Bristol had 11 hits for the afternoon while
Pittsburgh had 8.
The win went to Frank Barnes(1-0) who allowed no runs in 2/3 of an inning.
Johnny Vander Meer gained credit for his 1st save. Tommy Byrne(0-3) was the
loser in relief.
