Royce Clayton had 2 base hits as the Savannah Rumrunners defeated the Iowa
MoonlightGraham by a score of 6 to 5 at Jacob's Field.
Savannah had the game winning rally in the 8th inning plating 3 runs on 5 base
hits. Vladimir Guerrero led off the inning for Savannah when he hit a
single. John Olerud struck out, unable to help the rally. Ron Coomer then
doubled, and an error was also committed, plating a run. Darin Erstad
followed next and he slapped a one-base hit scoring another run. One out
later, Kevin Polcovich came to bat and banged out a single. Brent Mayne
contributed to the rally and lined a base-hit to load the bases. Greg
McMichael then uncorked a wild one that found its way to the backstop scoring
the final run of the inning. Jeff Shaw was perfect in relief and got the
save, his 14th.
The winning pitcher was Stan Belinda(1-1) who allowed 1 run in 1/3 of an
inning. Danny Patterson(3-1) took the loss in relief. He pitched 1/3 of an
inning allowing 4 hits and no walks.
