WEB GEMS- Bot 5th: Del Rice blocked the plate, saving a run!
First baseman Jim Gentile launched 2 homeruns as the Colorado 14ers beat the
Sugarland Skeeters by a score of 9 to 1.
Gentile punished Sugarland with his bat. He lined a base-hit in the 1st
inning, launched a rocket-shot out of the park for a Grand Slam homerun in
the 6th inning and smashed a bases-empty 'big-fly' in the 8th inning.
Sugarland was out-hit by Colorado, 12 hits to 4.
Joe McClain(3-3) allowed no runs in 7 innings, and picked up the victory. The
losing pitcher was Milt Pappas(2-3). He got hammered, allowing 7 hits and 5
walks in 4 and 2/3 innings.
Gentile was jubilant after the game 'Let me see a box-score' he joked, 'I want
to see how that game looks on paper.'
