Randy Johnson mowed down 13 Hibbing batters and Chili Davis left the yard and
had 4 RBI as the Pittsburgh Bichipoos defeated the Hibbing Dylans 8 to 1 at
Cinergy Field.
Davis had a good day at the plate. He doubled plating a run in the 2nd inning
and belted a three-run homer in the 8th inning. Hibbing was out-hit by
Pittsburgh, 8 hits to 5.
Johnson(1-0) got credit for the victory, pitching 8 and 1/3 innings and
allowing 1 run. Andy Pettitte(0-1) was hit with the loss. The Pittsburgh
fans were thrilled by the performance put forth by Johnson, but it was
clearly his strikeouts that they enjoyed most. 'When he reached 10 strikeouts
the fans showed him their appreciation with a loud cheer.' Danny Murtaugh
said following the game.
