Mike Schmidt lofted one into the 'cheap seats' and had 2 RBI at Veterans
Stadium as the Colorado 14ers lost a heartbreaker to Bristol Blasters by the
score of 5 to 4.
The game was decided in the 9th inning. After two were out Schmidt was hit by
a pitch. Leroy Stanton stepped up next and he hit a single. Richie Zisk
then drew a walk to load the bases. Steve Yeager followed next and he lashed
a single resulting in an exciting win for Bristol and a wild post-game
celebration by the home town fans. This was a game of many highs and lows
for the home town fans, as the lead kept changing - 5 times in all.
The win was credited to Dave Hamilton(1-1) who went 2 innings allowing no
runs. Guillermo Hernandez(1-1) suffered the loss in relief. He pitched 2/3
of an inning allowing no hits and no walks.
