41,579 fans were treated to a fine game at Martin Park as only one run
separated the combatants at game's end. The Cincinnati Royalty won by the
slimmest of margins, 3 to 2.
Cincinnati tallied 2 runs in the top of the 5th inning when they came up with
4 base hits. The key at-bat was by Ralph Kiner who silenced the stadium when
he cracked a two-run shot. Pittsburgh threatened in the 9th but their rally
came up short.
The winning pitcher was Jay Heard(2-2) who allowed 2 runs in 8 innings. Heard
got help from Raydell Maddix who was credited with his 1st save. Sid
Hudson(0-1) was the losing pitcher.
Cincinnati now has a record of 10-10. Danny Murtaugh was pretty down after the
loss. 'We've really been sputtering along lately, something like 0-8 in the
last week or two. That won't get it done.'
