Dutch Ruether delivered 7 solid innings as the Colorado 14ers staged a
dramatic comeback over the Bristol Blasters by a score of 7 to 6 at Bright
Health Park.
Colorado came up with the deciding runs in the bottom of the 9th inning
plating 2 runs using 2 hits. Charlie Gehringer led off and started the rally
when he doubled. After an out was recorded, Fats Jenkins came up and he drew
a walk. Willie Wells then drew a walk to load the bases. Mel Ott stepped in
and he drew a walk which brought home a run. Johnny Neun came up to bat and
laced a one-base hit making Colorado the victors to the delight of the home
town faithful. Colorado finished with 14 hits while Bristol ended up with 5.
Garland Braxton(2-0) allowed no runs in 1 inning, and picked up the victory.
Tom Zachary(0-1) was the loser in relief. Braxton and Jenkins were really
whooping it up in the clubhouse after the great come from behind victory. As
David Kufkafka noted, 'A win like this one can do wonders for a team's
attitude.' Everyone shares in the joy - the fans, the players - even you guys
- it's better than winning by a dozen runs!'
