TEAM RISP- 14ers: 3 for 12 Silver Sluggers: 2 for 13
Center fielder Barry Bonnell had 2 base hits and Bruce Sutter slammed the door
on Sterling at Silver Slipper Park as the Colorado 14ers beat the Sterling
Silver Sluggers 5 to 4.
Colorado brought 2 runs across the plate in the top of the 7th inning. The
biggest moment was provided by Jim Essian who quieted the crowd when he
smashed a two-run homer. Although they lost, Sterling did out-hit Colorado
11 to 8.
The win was credited to Tom Seaver(3-0) who went 6 innings allowing 4 runs.
Sutter recorded his 2nd save. Doyle Alexander(2-3) ended up with the loss.
The win by Colorado was very good news as they had been 1-9 of late. Now
their seasonal record improves to 7-6. Ozzie Guillen was pretty down after
the loss. 'We've really been sputtering along lately, something like 0-10 in
the last week or two. That won't get it done.'
