Tommy Thomas allowed Jeff Meleras to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game
at The Palace where the Hibbing Dylans beat the Cincinatti Royalty 3 to
2.
Hibbing did all of it's offensive work in the 5th inning with 3 runs on 2
hits. Johnny Grabowski led off and started the rally when he lined a
one-base hit. Judy Johnson stepped into the batter's box and he drew a walk.
Thomas then laid down a sacrifice bunt. Bucky Harris was up next and he
drew a walk knocking in a run. Woody English came to the plate and slapped a
base-hit scoring another run. After another out, Red Parnell stepped up to
the plate and he hit a sacrifice fly scoring the final run of the inning.
Cincinatti had a chance to come back in the 9th but they came up short.
Thomas(1-0), allowing 2 runs for the game, picked up the victory. Dutch
Henry(0-1) absorbed the loss. He pitched 8 innings giving up 7 hits and 4
walks.
