In a tight game it was the Sterling Silver Sluggers 5, the Iowa MnlightGraham
3 at Kauffman Stadium.
Sterling came through with the game-winning runs in the 9th inning scoring 2
runs. Buddy Bell led off the inning for Sterling when he drew a walk. Dick
Drago then threw a pitch that the catcher muffed. Bob Robertson then doubled
scoring a single run. One out later, Larry Bowa stepped up to the plate and
he worked the squeeze play to perfection scoring the final run of the inning.
Sterling had 10 hits overall, while Iowa had 6.
The winning pitcher was Bob Gibson(1-0) who allowed 3 runs in 8 innings.
Gibson was helped out by Don Carrithers who recorded his 3rd save.
Drago(1-1) took the loss in relief.
