Center fielder Bobby Thomson had 4 hits and 5 RBI at Bright Health Field as
the Savannah Rumrunners staged a comeback win over the Colorado 14ers by the
count of 14 to 11.
Savannah won the game with an offensive outburst in the 9th inning as they
showed no mercy on Colorado blasting them for 4 hits and plating 7 runs. The
key offensive moment was provided by Thomson who silenced the stadium when he
belted a three-run homer. This was a game of many highs and lows for the
home town fans, as the lead kept changing - 5 times in all.
Bobby Hogue(3-0) got the win allowing no runs in 2 and 1/3 innings. Hogue got
help from Johnny Schmitz who was credited with his 1st save. The loss was
charged to Ted Wilks(0-2) in relief. He was knocked around by Savannah,
allowing 5 hits and 2 walks in 2 innings.
'I pin this one on my own shoulders,' Wilks said. 'The bottom line is I didn't
get the job done. Our fans deserve better than this.'
