Johnny Mize ripped 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI as the Providence Red Pandas
defeated the Minnesota Loons in 14 innings by a score of 9 to 8 at The Looney
Bin.
Both teams had scored 5 runs after nine full innings. Providence came out the
victor in the 14th inning. After an out was recorded, Paul Campbell was the
sparkplug when he doubled. Whitey Lockman next to the plate and he delivered
a base-hit scoring a run. Lockman took second on the throw. Jackie Robinson
then doubled scoring the final run of the inning. It was roller coaster of a
game as the lead change hands 5 times.
The win went to Jack Kramer(1-0) who allowed 2 runs in 3 innings. Sam Zoldak
gained credit for his 1st save. Frank Quinn(0-2) was the loser in relief.
