Bernie Carbo knocked 2 homeruns at The Wastelands as the Mid-World Bumblers
won in dramatic fashion coming back to beat the Minnesota Loons by the count
of 8 to 6.
Mid-World scored the decisive runs in a big bottom of the 9th inning plating 3
runs using 2 hits. Garry Templeton kicked off the action when he banged out
a single. After an out was recorded, Rod Carew stepped in and he was walked
intentionally. Larry Hisle then lost the ball over the fence for three runs
giving Mid-World the victory as 26,005 happy fans celebrated wildly.
Mid-World rapped out 11 hits for the night.
Pablo Torrealba(1-0) allowed 1 run in 2 innings, and picked up the victory.
Manny Sarmiento(0-1) was the losing pitcher in relief. Torrealba and Carbo
were really whooping it up in the clubhouse after the great come from behind
victory. As Wayne Wilson noted, 'A win like this one can do wonders for a
team's attitude.' Everyone shares in the joy - the fans, the players - even
you guys - it's better than winning by a dozen runs!'
