At Wrigley Field the Iowa MoonlightGraham outdistanced the Cincinatti Royalty
by a final score of 9 to 5.
Iowa brought 3 runs across the plate in the top of the 7th inning. Russ
Snyder led off and started the attack as he drew a walk. Maury Wills came
next and he drew a walk. Jerry Lumpe then drew a walk to load the bases.
Two outs later Bill White came to bat and reached on an error which scored a
run. Whitey Herzog came up to bat and ripped a single driving home another
two teammates. Cincinatti had 11 hits in the game while Iowa had 6, but Iowa
had the more timely hits.
Jim Coates(1-0) picked up the victory, allowing 5 runs in 6 innings. The
losing pitcher was Dick Drott(0-1). Iowa scored big getting 8 runs off him
in 7 innings.
